In 2026, Beringer Vineyards celebrates 150 years as Napa Valley’s longest continuously operating winery, a legacy shaped by generations of winemakers, craftsmanship, and innovation. With so much history behind us, what keeps us inspired for the next vintage? Curiosity. Since the beginning, we’ve continued to experiment, finding new ways to improve our wines, vineyards, and ways of working while preserving the distinctive Beringer style that has defined us for generations.
A Beringer Returns
Since 1876, we’ve had 10 remarkably talented winemakers, each with their own take on balancing tradition with innovation. In 2015, after an absence of over 80 years, we were thrilled to welcome a Beringer back to the stone winery. Mark Beringer, Jacob’s great-great-grandson, returned to his hometown after decades honing his craft in Napa, Oregon, and Canada.
How did Mark feel about stepping into Jacob’s shoes? “I was excited to be making wines for the very winery that my ancestor built and to be part of the next chapter in this important story of Beringer and of the Napa Valley,” he explained. “As a winemaker, there is no greater thrill than having excellent vineyards to work with and Beringer’s are second to none.”

8th Maker Cabernet Sauvignon
Debuted with vintage 2016
Mark Beringer, our 8th winemaker, kicked off his homecoming in style. To honor his predecessors, Mark envisioned an ultra-luxury, limited-production wine crafted exclusively from the best Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grown at our finest vineyards. Today, 8th Maker Cabernet Sauvignon has become one of the connoisseur-favorite hidden gems of our winery.
Quantum Red Blend
Debuted with vintage 2010
Based on a scientific concept that translates to “more than the sum of its parts,” Quantum Red Blend is crafted around a backbone of Cabernet Sauvignon with small amounts of multiple Bordeaux varietals from multiple vineyard lots to create a blend offering more complexity, depth, and elegance than any single component could achieve on its own.
Luminus Chardonnay
Debuted with vintage 2012
Luminus Chardonnay, the Latin word for “light,” was created to highlight the refreshing, zingy style of Chardonnay that can only be grown in chillier microclimates. This single-vineyard wine focuses exclusively on our Big Ranch Vineyard in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley. This valley-floor wine benefits from the strong cooling influence of both San Pablo Bay and the Napa River, which brings the grapes bright fruit aromatics, vibrant acidity, and saline minerality.

While we were perusing the archives preparing for our 150th anniversary, we came across a bit of memorabilia from our 140th that made us smile. While we often talk about Beringer’s influence on the California wine industry, we’re also so proud of our role as a neighbor in the St. Helena community.
In 2016, Mike Thompson, who was born and raised here and worked at Beringer before becoming our congressman, gave us a lovely toast in the House of Representatives to celebrate the occasion. It’s captured in the official Congressional Record.

Who is Beringer’s current winemaker?
In our 150 years, Beringer has only had 10 winemakers. Our current Chief Winemaker, Margo Van Staavern, joined us in 2025. She started her career at Beringer and with 45 harvests to her name, at Beringer and other renowned wineries, Margo’s become one of the most highly respected figures in California wine country. Says Margo about her return: “Beringer has long held a special place in my heart, not only as one of Napa’s most historic estates, but as a benchmark for excellence in California winemaking.”
