Lampyridae, “firefly” in Latin, is one of Napa’s highest vineyards at 2400 feet elevation. This picturesque vineyard is high above the fog layer and has longer hours of sunshine and warmer nights, but days are cooler than the lower elevation vineyards. On clear days you can see all the way to San Francisco. One of the newest vineyards in the Private Reserve line-up, it shows incredible depth of flavor and intense, unique black fruit characters. Careful attention is paid to vineyard blocks, which are kept separate and vinified with a goal of extracting maximum flavor.
“Aromas of cassis, blackberries, baking spices and cedar wood with hints of hazelnuts and graphite. Firm and solid with a full body and chewy tannins. Compact and polished with an attractive dark fruit on the palate. Long and chocolatey with some ash undertones. Try from 2026.” - James Suckling, February 2022
In 2016, Ryan returned to Napa Valley to join Beringer Vineyards as Luxury Red Winemaker and crafted wines from the Knight’s Valley estate. He was appointed Sr. Winemaker and General Manager in 2017 and elevated to Chief Winemaker in 2021. Ryan is honored to bring recognition to the wines produced at one of Napa Valley’s best known and most beloved wineries, following in the footsteps of a roster of acclaimed chief winemakers such as Ed Sbragia, Myron Nightingale, Laurie Hook, and Mark Beringer.
