Winemaking
To maintain the unique characteristics of the different lots from various areas of the vineyard, each is monitored carefully throughout the vinification and aging process. Extended maceration extracted
maximum color, aromas, and flavors from the grapes. It also developed generous tannins to enhance
the lush mouthfeel of the blend. The wines were aged in French oak barrels (30% new) for 14 months, undergoing malolactic fermentation for further texture and mouthfeel development.

Vintage
The beginning of the 2021 growing season came early, with extended periods of sunny weather and periods of late, but much needed, rain. The season was considered early, as a drought year, with the start being low on humidity, with high heat, and high winds, occurring as early as the beginning of May. The summer however returned to more seasonal, expected temperatures, and even ripening led to one of the earliest harvest beginnings. Lower yields also contributed to the early start and showed intense fruit flavor development.

Vineyards
Located 17 miles northwest of the winery, Knights Valley vineyard is approximately 600 acres, and has rocky, well-drained soils that are perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot.
