The 2018 Napa Valley Merlot is plush and round with loads fleshy red and dark blue fruit flavors. The wine is highlighted by hints of toffee, dark cherry, and dark chocolate. Welcomed winter rain in January and February of 2018 eased long drought conditions. After a relatively wet winter, both bud break and flowering occurred later than average, but under ideal weather conditions, creating plentiful and even fruit set. Warm summer temperatures with generous sun exposure, moderated by cool marine influences in the mornings and evenings, allowed for a long summer growing season virtually uninterrupted by any major heat spikes. The mild summer run, followed by extended fall sunshine with moderate heat and no early rains, created near-ideal conditions to allow fruit extended hang time for gradual ripening, resulting in increased sugar levels and flavor complexity. The fruit for this 2018 blend comes from multiple AVAs throughout Napa Valley, including Calistoga, Howell Mountain, and Oakville. As a warmer region, Calistoga offers red fruits and richness. Oakville delivers dark fruits and density, while Howell Mountain fruit provides structure to the final blend.Vineyard
