Vintage 2015
Wine Type Red
Varietal Zinfandel
Winemaker Mark Beringer
Beringer's winery and club exclusive wines are particularly special. This evolving collection highlights vineyards and varietals that stand out in a particular vintage. Our Zinfandel has awards dating back to the 1915 San Francisco Fair. The 2015 vintage was as phenomenal as its predecessors with notes of raspberry, blackberry, and spice tones that can only be found in Zinfandel from Red Hills Lake County.

Tasting Note

A dark ruby color with an incredibly plush bouquet, this Zinfandel shows beautifully in the glass. Raspberries, blueberries and deep notes of black cherry dominate this wine’s aromas. Warming spices of white pepper, cinnamon and vanilla on the nose inform what the first sip of the wine will bring. On the palate, a burst of fruit gives way to the baking spices on the finish. Bracing acidity and chalky tannins make up the backbone of this Lake County Zinfandel, and compliment the dry, long finish. An incredible example of what Lake County Zinfandels can achieve with great stewardship.

Vintage Notes

Early, a bit challenged by the cumulative impact of the drought years, but exceptional in quality for the smaller amount of fruit that was harvested. That’s the story of the 2015 growing season. A mild winter caused early bud break, followed by protracted bloom and unseasonably cool weather in spring, contributing to smaller grape clusters and variable crop size.

Winemaking Note

Vineyard lots remain separate from field to winery, allowing for careful selection of distinctive wines. To emphasize freshness, the wine was fermented in stainless and allowed to undergo malolactic fermentation prior to finishing in mixed American and French oak for a year, with new French oak adding toasty oak spice and vanilla.
