2015 Beringer Distinction Series Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

2015 Beringer Distinction Series Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

2015 Beringer Distinction Series Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Beringer’s Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted to reflect the outstanding strength of the Napa Valley appellation, but with stylistic differences from the Private Reserve Cabernet – differences that highlight the range of terroir found in our Napa Valley vineyards. Possessing great structure and concentration, this wine is immediately approachable and appealing but still incredibly cellar worthy.

Select vineyards and blocks from AVAs up and down the valley are used to craft a wine that is the quintessential expression of Napa Valley terroir, and this wine is an enticing expression of the varietal and the depth and complexity of flavor it can exhibit when grown in the right place.

“Very aromatic and fascinating with hazelnut and walnut aromas. Blackberries, too. Full-bodied, firm and silky with a juicy finish. Long and flavorful. Drink or hold." - James Suckling

Tasting Note

Richly colored in an inky purple hue, the wine offers aromas and flavors of dark fruits, featuring blackberry, currants, smoked meats and baking spices, with menthol and cedar cigar box notes accented by rich pipe tobacco. Trending toward full body with muscular tannins, the finish is long and lingering, with a dense texture that promises a long and rewarding life cycle.

The 2015 growing season in Sonoma and Knights Valley was marked by pleasant weather with little pressure from heat spikes or unseasonable rain. A dry winter, common in recent years, was quickly followed by an equally dry spring, leading to an early bud break and fast start to the growing season. Warm weather continued throughout late spring and summer, allowing for the steady and sure development of flavors. Harvest began early in August, and the overall quality, complexity and balance in the vines produced exceptional fruit for the winemakers. The impact of the continuing drought was evident in slightly lighter crop loads, but the reduction in size was offset by an increase in quality.

Napa Valley AVA

Napa Valley

Great care was taken to retain the individual expressions of each of the vineyards in the blend by keeping each lot separate throughout fermentation and aging. This has become tradition for Beringer Cabernets, and allows flexibility from a broad array of aromatic, flavor and structural components at blending time. After fermentation the lots were aged in 29 percent new French Never oak barrels for 20 months. Each lot was monitored closely and tasted regularly to ensure their development individually and to formulate how best to fit the lots together for the final blend.

Mark Beringer - Winemaker

Mark Beringer, great-great-grandson of Beringer Vineyards' founding brother Jacob Beringer, was immersed in wine from the moment he was born in the heart of the Napa Valley. As the direct descendant to Beringer's first winemaker and one of the most iconic family names in Napa Valley wine history, he knew from a young age that he would follow in the footsteps of his ancestors. As a young man he spent many hours working in his family's wine store in Saint Helena, expanding his knowledge of wine as well as gaining an appreciation for wines outside of the famous region he has always called home.
