99 Points | James Suckling

“Must Buy: "The spice and walnut aromas are so enticing. Undertones of blackberries and black truffles. Full-bodied, dense and layered with fantastic tension and seamless tannins. It goes on for minutes. All about classic structure and beauty." ” - James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com

95+ Points | Wine Advocate

“Containing the tiniest splashes of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve has a deep garnet-purple color and nose of plum preserves, baked blackberries and cassis with hints of menthol, sandalwood and chocolate box. Full-bodied with soft, seductive tannins and a lively backbone supporting the generous, ripe, opulent fruit, it has a decadent spiciness and great length.” -Lisa Perotti-Brown, Wine Advocate

Wine Notes:

Richly garnet and purple colored, the wine opens with aromas of oak spice and dark black fruits framed with chocolate mocha.  Flavors follow the aromas, with dominant mountain blackberries, plum and cassis accented by black truffles.  The fruit is opulent with soft, silky tannins and great structure.  A wine built for the ages, with much yet to be revealed. 97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petite Verdot

Yields were down in 2015 as a result of the continuing drought and further reduced by cold weather during flowering. However, a warm summer with almost no rain allowed for optimal ripening, and the resulting harvest, while small, was of outstanding quality. Grapes are small and packed with flavor and color, creating wines with excellent extraction and structure.

Beringer 2016 Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

99 Points | James Suckling

“Breathtaking. Exceptional integration of super ripe blackberries and the very finest oak. The tannins build up beautifully, forming wave upon wave as the wine flows across the palate. Then the wave breaks on your palate and shoots way out at the finish, so that you wonder where it will end and normal life begin again. Needs time to soften, but this is so, so good. Give it two or three years.”- James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com

Wine Notes:

Rich, full-bodied and deeply rewarding, this vintage expression is one for the ages (and aging). Notes of crème de cassis, black and blue fruits and baking spices frame flavors of ripe plum, dark cherry and chocolate in a muscular yet exceedingly well balanced and elegant wine. A memorable, lingering finish continues to reveal multiple layers of complexity to be enjoyed over the next two decades.

The Beringer reserve vineyards offer Cabernet Sauvignon of such quality that a minimalist approach to winemaking has long defined this special blend. Each vineyard is vinified separately and monitored carefully from the moment the fruit comes into the winery at Harvest. Tailored pump-over techniques are used for optimal extraction, and the wine is aged in hand-selected, custom-toasted barrels of new French Nevers oak (83% new). Each lot aged 20 months before selection of the final blend, to allow each vineyard to express the depth of its unique terroir.
