The 2013 Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has aromas of ripe black fruit, mocha, dried herbs and licorice. Opulent but structured, this versatile wine has supple blue and black fruit notes accented by dark chocolate, roasted coffee and a silky, lingering finish.
For the 2013 blend, the largest portion came from several of our reserve vineyards -- Bancroft Ranch Vineyard in the Howell Mountain AVA, Marston Vineyard in the Spring Mountain AVA and the St. Helena Home Vineyard which was part of the original acreage purchased by Jacob and Frederick Beringer in 1865. The blend is one that highlights the best of Napa Valley’s valley floor and mountain-top terroir.
Ripe dark fruits are accented by hints of cedar and dark chocolate aromas. The mouthfeel is dense and lush, with juicy red and blue berries and a solid structure.
Inviting aromas lead to a lush, juicy palate where the red fruit flavors standout alongside touches of clove and allspice adding depth and complexity. The generous fruit is balanced by the bright acidity making this fresh and vibrant while also silky and satisying.
92 points, Wine Spectator "The fruit is ripe and juicy, seemingly sweet and shaded by spicy, toasty oak, allowing tiers of flavors to unfold in a graceful, elegant and understated manner."
To enhance the natural richness of our Chardonnay we fermented the juice in predominately new French oak barrels. Weekly lees stirring enhanced the toasty notes, and integrated the oak flavors for an overall balance, while complete malolactic fermentation encouraged lush creaminess. After 9 months aging, our winemaker chose the most expressive lots and blended them to create a richly layered wine with aromas of crème brulee and rich citrus and fruit flavors.
