The first thing you notice is the deep, saturated color, nearly opaque. Blackberry and black pepper, the hallmarks of Petite Sirah, along with subtle notes of roasted coffee and black cherries soar from the glass as you give it a swirl. It coats your palate with more black fruits and notes of orange peel and spice. This large scaled Petite Sirah owes its intensity to the volcanic rock that make up the Black Rock vineyard. Firm tannins suggest a long life ahead.

Wine Advocate | Robert Parker | December, 2011
"The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve is a beautifully balanced wine. Firm yet well-integrated tannins frame a core of dark red berries, flowers, mint, spices and licorice. The Reserve shows lovely inner perfume and mid-palate juiciness. It should drink well with a minimum of cellaring. The main vineyards in the 2009 are Home (37%), Lampyridae (23%), Vogt (14%), Chabot (11%) and Rancho del Oso (9%). Each lot was aged separately for about two years before the final blend was assembled. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029." - Antonio Galloni

International Wine Cellar | Stephen Tanzer's | May,  2012
"Good full ruby. Pure but tight nose shows a medicinal reserve. Then tight and penetrating in the mouth, with noteworthy intensity to the blackberry and menthol flavors. Much less open and showy today than the Bancroft cabernet, revealing little in the way of easy sweetness. This seriously structured wine finishes with substantial firm tannins, excellent breadth and a suggestion of chocolatey richness, and should be long-lived. "A blend of the best of the best," according to winemaker Laurie Hook, who added that she's looking for "intensity, complexity, depth, persistence, elegance."

The 2009 Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon presents aromas of ripe blackberry, sweet pastry and espresso, accented by hints of lavender, cedar and graphite. The palate is concentrated and dense with flavors of dark fruit and spice notes. A rich texture and mouth-coating tannins linger in the elegant finish.

This wine leans toward melon and stone fruit flavors – apricot, peach and pear – picking up a floral component on the sweet mid-palate. Delicate oak notes of vanilla and brown sugar add to the rich mouthfeel, with an intriguing mineral component that keeps the wine fresh and bright. This is a rich, creamy yet well-balanced wine, with a long, juicy finish that begs for another sip.

The Beringer reserve vineyards offer Cabernet Sauvignon of such quality that a minimalist approach to winemaking has long defined this special blend. Each vineyard is vinified separately and monitored carefully by Laurie, from the moment the fruit comes into the winery at Harvest. She uses tailored pump-over techniques for optimal extraction, and ages the wines in hand-selected, custom-toasted barrels of new French Nevers oak (77% new). Each lot was aged for almost 18 months before selection of the final blend, to allow each vineyard to express the depth of its unique terroir.  91 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate.

VINOUS | Antonio Galloni | November, 2013
"The Cabernet Sauvignon-based 2011 Quantum is drop-dead gorgeous. Blackberries, cassis, grilled herbs and new leather all jump from the glass in a full-bodied, intense wine loaded with fruit. The 2011 is voluptuous and seamless from start to finish. Cloves, licorice and smoke all add nuance on the powerful, tannic close. The Quantum is another huge, rich 2011 from Beringer."

Wine Spectator
The 2012 vintage began with textbook conditions that continued through much of Harvest. Spring bud break was ideal with steady flowering and even fruit set. A lengthy stretch of warm days and cool nights during the summer months allowed for optimal ripeness to develop in the grapes and an exceptional quality overall. Late and light rains held off until the grapes found ripeness, bringing exceptional quality to the crush. Located 17 miles northwest of the winery, Knights Valley vineyard is approximately 600 acres, and has rocky, well-drained soils that are perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Grapes for the 2012 Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon were harvested between October 4th through October 26th.
