In 1876, brothers Jacob and Frederick Beringer established Beringer Vineyards with a dream of making wines that would rival the finest in Europe. Today, Jacob’s great great-grandson, Chief Winemaker Mark Beringer, guides what is now California’s longest continually operating winery and one of Napa’s finest producers. With over 1,600 acres farmed across Napa's best appellations, as well as Sonoma County and Paso Robles, Beringer is recognized as one of the region’s preeminent producers with a rich portfolio of wines.
Beringer Private Reserve represents the pinnacle of the portfolio. Former Chief Winemakers Myron Nightingale and Ed Sbragia created the Private Reserve program in 1977 with the goal of crafting Napa's finest Cabernet Sauvignon. The Private Reserve Chardonnay was introduced with the 1978 vintage, and together these wines have earned three decades of extraordinary accolades, including two "Wine of the Year" awards.
The techniques used to make this special Sauterne-style dessert wine were developed by Myron Nightingale, Winemaker from 1971–1985, and his wife Alice. Three decades were spent in developing their method for making a wine in the style of the classic French Sauternes. The intense flavors that come from this wine are remarkable, and it is a beautiful demonstration of how science and art can come together in winemaking.Shop Nightingale
Beringer farms an extraordinary collection of seven single vineyard sites across Napa Valley. Hailing from Howell Mountain, Spring Mountain, Mt. Veeder, and St. Helena, these single vineyards deliver unique styles of Cabernet Sauvignon that are combined to form our flagship Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.
When vintage conditions allow, Beringer also produces small individual vineyard bottlings from these sites. Our single vineyard wines are the utmost expression of each vintage and of site-specific terroir. Because of the limited nature of these wines, our single vineyard Cabernets are available for sale only through our web site and at our winery. You can also find our Bancroft Ranch Merlot at fine restaurants and wine shops.

Relatively new to the Beringer portfolio, the Distinction Series wines highlight particularly unique vineyard sites or blends. Featuring wines such as Quantum Red Blend, Knights Valley Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and Luminus Chardonnay, this collection allows Chief Winemaker Mark Beringer to take risks, experiment, and explore new, innovative ways of working with our vineyard sites.
A quantum is the smallest unit of energy achievable in science. The combination of these tiny particles results in a system of great expression and complexity. Similarly in wine, each grape varietal offers unique flavor and structure, and each vineyard contributes yet another unique expression of those characteristics. The blend of this wine shifts from vintage to vintage, driven by the evolving varietal expressions each year.Learn more about master blending
Since 1876, Beringer has been a pioneer in California winemaking. We were the first winery to experiment with gravity-flow fermentation techniques; we dug the first naturally temperature-controlled caves by hand in the 1880s; and were the first winery to open our doors to tourism after Prohibition. In the 1960s we pioneered vineyard development in Knights Valley, a small and ruggedly beautiful region just northwest of the Beringer winery. Then in the 1970s, at the start of Central Coast winemaking, we started developing our holdings in this region.
Now, as a result of decades of pioneering, Beringer farms a diverse and expressive series of vineyards across Napa Valley, Knights Valley and Paso Robles. Beringer Regional Estates wines celebrate the range of vineyard expressions found in these sites. Each wine label showcases an illustration of the leading vineyard in that wine. As with all of our sites, the vineyards that contribute to these wines are entirely sustainably farmed. This collection includes our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles Red Blend "The Waymaker," and Napa Valley Chardonnay.
