Each of our vineyard lots is picked and kept separate when brought into the winery at Harvest, to ensure that we maintain the unique qualities of each vineyard and the terroir it brings to the blend. After the grapes were sent directly to press where the juice was gently extracted, Laurie fermented the blend in new oak barrels to accentuate the spice and savory notes that complement this varietal. A smaller portion of the blend was also fermented in stainless steel tanks to maintain the vibrant, berry notes found in Pinot Noir.
VINTAGE & VINEYARDS
The 2010 growing season was long and mild with ideal temperatures for even ripening. A mild spring and summer was accented by a heat spike at the end of August, which expedited ripening in the grapes and helped deliver a harvest of good quality and quantity.
Beringer’s Modern Heritage Pinot Noir comes from Stanly Ranch, a vineyard located in the Southern end of the Napa Valley that benefits from the cooling breezes of the San Pablo Bay. Stanly Ranch provides grapes with great acid balance, and exhibit the delicate nuances of this delicate varietal.
I love the range of complementary flavors that Pinot Noir exhibits, and the 2009 Modern Heritage is a wonerful example, exhibiting everything from strawberry flavors to a savory, lavender aroma. This wine has bright red berry flavors with a hint of cocoa powder, accented by fine tannins and a lingering finish.
