“The 2006 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is evocative of the rich terroir of Napa Valley, yet a wine that I nd to be immediately approachable and appealing. I pick up aromas of cassis and cherry accented by licorice and roasted coee. The wine has a plush mouthfeel complemented by avor notes of black fruit and brown spice, and there is bright blackberry nish.”
–Laurie Hook, Winemaker

The Vineyards
Beringer’s Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted to reflect the Napa Valley appellation, but with stylistic differences from the Private Reserve – differences that highlight the range of terroir found in our Napa Valley vineyards. For the 2006 blend, the largest portion of the blend came from Steinhauer vineyard on Howell Mountain, a site notorious for its rich red soils and corresponding intense flavor characteristic. Beringer’s six other reserve vineyards each contribute a portion of the blend, making it expressive of the Napa Valley terroir from valley floor to the highest mountain tops.

Vintage
The 2006 growing season began with a slightly delayed budbreak after quite a bit of Winter and Spring rain. Summer was moderately warm, with the exception of a heat wave in July that helped speed the growth of the vines. Mild weather continued through much of harvest, allowing for consistent and deliberate ripening of the grapes. Grapes for the 2006 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon were picked from September 30th to October 26th.

Winemaking
Laurie was careful to retain the individual expressions of each of the vine- yards in the blend by keeping each lot separate throughout fermentation and aging. This has become tradition for Beringer Cabernets, and allows Laurie to blend from a broad array of aromatic, flavor and structural components. After fermentation all of the lots were aged in 96% percent new French Never oak barrels for 22 months. Each lot was monitored closely and tasted regularly, to ensure its development individually and to formulate how best to fit the lots together for the final blend. The final blend is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet France and 4% Petite Verdot.
