One of the longest, coolest growing seasons in memory, in an area where long and cool growing seasons are common, produced intense, tannic and well-balanced wines with great aging potential. Again, the Chabot, St. Helena Home and Bancroft vineyards were the source of the Cabernet Sauvignon for the Private Reserve, with the addition of 3 percent Cabernet Franc from the Bancroft Ranch vineyard.
The wine is highly concentrated and extractive, with expressive, big, dark fruit aromas and flavors. It has very fine, integrated tannins and a long finish.

Rated 94 – Brimming with ripe, complex, youthful juicy plum, black cherry, chocolate, currant and spicy fruit flavors. Very dark color, excellent structure and depth of flavor. Finishes with a long, complex aftertaste. Should last another decade with ease. Drink now through 2012. (James Laube) Web Only – 2002

Beringer's 1991 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve possesses excellent concentration, a smashing bouquet of smoky, unctuously-textured black and red fruits, sweet, generous, decadently rich flavors, low acidity, and a voluptuously long, juicy finish. This fabulous Cabernet should drink well for 15 or more years. (Robert Parker) October 1995
Exceptional – Potent aroma of cedar, cherry, cassis and black currants with hints of plum and smoke. Still youthful, and the tannins are not bother because of the high-tined fruit. A powerful, age-worthy wine. December 6, 2001
